Elliot Kruszynski uses his strong character design skills to add a sense of playfulness into all his work. His images are filled with multitudes of people and animals all with their own uniquely upbeat personalities.
Managing so many elements at once is one of Elliot’s strengths, really coming into his own when putting together creative compositions that allow all his characters to get along. His work is at its best when he’s filling it with all these lighthearted little details.
Elliot talks to us about why he likes making these characters, and how he goes about doing so.

My name is Elliot Kruszynski an East London based illustrator and screen printer, I love creating character and fun! I’m attempting to breathe life into everyday narratives by breaking down the boundaries of the inanimate and the alive, bringing joy into the mundane. And also I do just really like drawing faces on things.
I pretty much either draw everything with a Rotring Tikky mechanical pencil but I also love using a Conte a Paris crayon, they create such a great texture.
Once I’m satisfied with a composition (normally after a rigorous thumbnailing session), I’ll draw a nice clean version and scan it in. I then tend to basically redraw everything digitally using my extremely used and abused Wacom tablet.

Because I don’t really use outlines in my images I find this the easiest way for me to work although sometimes it does feel a bit soulless and the energy of the original drawing can sometimes be lost slightly. To counter that, I just try and draw a lot in sketchbooks and loose sheets of paper and create physical objects.
I’ve recently gotten into cutting out wooden shapes and painting them and that’s been a really fun process. Being a screen printer as well allows me to get away from my mac and create something physical.
