Daniel Zender has a talent for creating simple compositions that are rich yet subtle in the details. He can take one large block of colour and give it a new kind of depth with his creative use of his materials.

As he goes on to talk about, he has actively been looking for clearer and clearer forms of visual expression, especially with the amount of visual information, in his recent images.
But with as much as he takes away, we are impressed by the amount of interest he is able to generate with the nuances of his marks with the compositional elements that he leaves behind. He tells us more.

Currently, most of my work is generated by using acrylic paint, markers, and pencil. I use frisket stencils to make large areas of space be solid clean colors, but also for small details.
I have also been using sharpie markers as a primary tool recently, for sketching but also for final pieces. Large blocks of inked color are composited and colored in Photoshop, for projects with less time or lower budgets.
I think that my main approach to all of my work, especially recently, is to try and keep reducing everything I tend do to simpler and simpler forms and compositions. I am really trying not to get hung up on details, and the result is bright, colorful images that tell a story with only a few elements (or at least, I hope so).
